FAQS
Common questions and answers about solar panels and systems.
Once you have provided a power bill to us, we look at the units of power that you have used, as well as the lines charges to calculate the number of solar panels that your home would benefit from having installed. We use this power bill to estimate the savings both in year one and over the 20 year period. The savings calculation takes into account the lower retail rates for energy that you will have access to that has no margin added, as well as the reduction of grid energy needed by the home (because of the solar energy generated and used) and the use of the battery to ensure that most grid energy is purchased at low pricing periods.
Consumer NZ warns that if you buy a solar system it could take years to pay for itself and that the payback time for a battery is far longer than its lifespan. That’s not an issue with our solar energy service as there are no upfront costs and no additional costs for hardware, ownership or battery maintenance. You just pay a low, fixed monthly service/subscription fee, no matter where you live. Savings are guaranteed and you can expect to halve your current power bills.
Yes. Let us know your details and we’ll contact you to discuss your options.
First we’ll see if your home qualifies. That means checking your current energy use and that your home is in one of our service regions. Plus, we’ll use aerial images to look at the the size and orientation of your roof. Further to that we’ll check what type of cladding is on your roof, the pitch and if there any issues with shading that could impact on the system’s performance.
A standard installation is normally completed in one day. Due to circumstances beyond our control, like wet weather or installation complexities at some homes, we may have to schedule a second day to complete the work. After we’ve finished our part we’ll organise for your meter to be replaced with a two-way meter and for the whole installation to be approved by an independent inspector. Once that’s done the system will be switched on and will start powering your home with cleaner, cheaper, smarter energy.
Yes, although this service is a grid tied solar solution, we can look at other solar solutions that will work off grid. Note that going completely off-grid can be expensive.
You may export to the grid if our system generates more electricity than it can use and store. This will depend on the size of the system as well as the daily use of electricity in your home. You may generate surplus solar in the summer months as system sizing is based on average annual power usage, not for summer peaks. We will work closely with you to ensure that the whole system is working in the most effective way. One of the benefits of the this service is the solar export credit that ensures that when you sell solar power you’re paid the same rate it costs you to buy energy, excluding network charges and GST.
